Asbestos Medical Checks

Asbestos is a major cause of work-related deaths in New Zealand with around 170 people dying each year from asbestos-related diseases.

These serious health risks are caused from inhaling asbestos airborne fibres which cause permanent and irreversible damage to vital organs. Once the fibres are breathed in, they lodge in the lungs and may cause diseases like asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.

The Approved Code of Practice for the Management and Removal of Asbestos (2016) provides clear guidance for management of these risks, including the requirement for Full Asbestos Medicals. As an employer our Full Asbestos Medicals, enable you to meet your requirements.

What causes Asbestos-related diseases?

Chronic lung disease is caused by inhaling asbestos fibres. Prolonged exposure to these fibres can cause lung tissue scarring and shortness of breath.

Asbestosis symptoms can range from mild to severe, and usually don’t appear until many years after continued exposure.

Because Asbestos-related disease symptoms appear after years of exposure, it is best to get your staff tested annually to ensure early detection to best protect your staff’s health and wellbeing.

Asbestos Medical Checks are best partnered with our additional service: Respirator Fit Testing. See below for details.
