First Aid Training Courses Available

New Zealand First Aid Certificate 

Delivery: Public and on-site course 

This full certification course covers NZQA unit standards 6400, 6401 and 6402, making it our most comprehensive workplace first aid qualification. What sets it apart from our other first aid courses is the inclusion of unit standard 6400, Manage First Aid in an Emergency Situation, which trains first aiders to take charge of more serious incidents and treat conditions such as head injuries, major wounds and burns. 

Foundation First Aid / First Aid Revalidation 

Delivery: Public and on-site course 

These courses cover the same content (US 6402 – US6401) and are delivered with a mix of practical scenarios. The main difference comes down to who the course is for and when your staff last trained. 

Foundation First Aid is for people who are new to First Aid, work in a low-risk environment or who’s previous First Aid Certificate has expired. 

Revalidation First Aid is for people who have completed First Aid training within the last 2 years and want to refresh their knowledge. 

Workplace LifeSaver Course

Delivery: On-site course 

Designed for office and low-risk environments, this course focuses on CPR, AED use, choking response and managing a collapsed person. It provides a strong foundation in emergency response without full NZQA certification requirements. 

Heart Start Training

Delivery: On-site course 

Heart Start training focuses on AED awareness and early cardiac response. Participants learn how to recognise cardiac arrest, begin CPR promptly and use a defibrillator with confidence on-site only. 

Caring for Kids First Aid

Delivery: Public and on-site course 

This course focuses on managing child injuries and common illnesses. It is particularly relevant for schools, early childcare centres, and caregivers.

Mental Health 101

Delivery: Public and on-site course 

This course builds awareness and practical skills to recognise and respond to common mental health challenges in the workplace and beyond. It is a great companion to physical first aid training for organisations focused on holistic employee wellbeing.

Public Courses Frequency: Twice a week

We offer both public courses at this venue and on-site workplace training across Lower Hutt, Wellington City and the wider Wellington region.

Our training rooms are set up for practical, scenario-based learning, allowing participants to practise CPR, AED use, and emergency response techniques in a supportive environment. From this office, and through our wider LifeCare training venue network in Wellington City and Masterton, we support clients across the Wellington region.

Parking & Getting to the Training Venue

Our Gracefield venue offers free on-site parking, with additional street parking available nearby. This makes the venue particularly convenient for drivers travelling in from across the Hutt Valley and Wellington region. The venue is also accessible by public transport, with local bus routes servicing the Gracefield and Petone areas. Participants are encouraged to allow a few extra minutes for arrival.

If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact our team in advance so we can assist. Please note that there is no lift onsite; participants will need to use the stairs to arrive at the course.

Cheryl Marais

Occupational Health Nurse

Cheryl brings 29 years of nursing experience into her role, along with a warm and approachable teaching style. She holds a Diploma of General Nursing and joined LifeCare in June 2024.

Based in Wellington, Cheryl supports clients with training and health services delivery across the greater Wellington region and surrounding areas. Originally from South Africa, Cheryl creates a relaxed and welcoming learning environment where participants feel supported while developing practical, life-saving skills.

Steffan Menzies

Trainer (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care)

Steffan brings over 20 years of experience in first aid and training, making him one of the most experienced trainers in the team. He holds a Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching and a qualification in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care.

Based in Wellington, Steffan delivers training across the region and beyond. His background includes work as a first aid medic, instructor and Search and Rescue team member. Known for his legendary dad jokes, Steffan combines deep expertise with humour, creating sessions that are both highly informative and genuinely enjoyable.

Tiffany Beese

Occupational Health Technician 

Tiffany brings over 20 years of experience across health and wellbeing fields, including massage therapy, Ortho-Bionomy, yoga and first aid training. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and joined LifeCare in October 2023.

Based in Wellington, Tiffany supports clients across the region with both training and health services. Originally from England and now a long-time Wellington local, Tiffany is known for her vibrant personality and engaging delivery style. Her sessions are relaxed, memorable, and designed to make even complex topics easy to understand.

Rhea Joseph

Occupational Health Technician (Clinical Psychology and Professional Practice)

Rhea holds two master’s degrees, in Clinical Psychology and Professional Practice, bringing a strong understanding of human behaviour and learning into her role. She joined LifeCare in October 2024.

Based in Wellington, Rhea supports training and health services across the region with a calm and thoughtful approach. Her style is supportive and inclusive, creating a safe environment where learners feel comfortable building their skills and confidence at their own pace.

Millie Harland

Occupational Health Technician (Exercise and Sport Science)

Millie is an emerging trainer with a fresh and enthusiastic approach to first aid education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science and joined LifeCare in January 2025.

Based in Wellington, Millie supports training and health services delivery across the region, particularly enjoying working with schools and younger audiences. Her engaging and relatable style helps make first aid accessible and relevant, encouraging participants to feel confident applying what they have learned in real-life situations.
