Amended Press Release

By: Janet Brothers Managing Director of

Date: 16th December 2010

A New Zealand First in First Aid Education

This amended press release replaces the release of 19th November 2010. It has been amended to remove ambiguity in relation to the total study hours required to complete the recently approved and accredited programmes; Work-based First Aid and First Refresher. This amendment aligns the total study hours required with ‘ First Aid as a Life Skill: Training Requirements for Quality Provision for Unit Standard Based First Aid Courses.

First Aid education provider Hamilton based ‘Life Care Consultants’ are this week celebrating receiving NZQA approval for two of their courses.  NZQA approved Life Care Consultants ‘Work-based First Aid’ and ‘First Aid Refresher’ courses last week and the decision signals a new era in First Aid education in New Zealand.

Staff celebrated the approvals which saw their courses evaluated against the seven course approval criteria set out in the 1989 Education Amendment Act.  The criterion which has been used to evaluate their courses is the same as that which applies to university and polytechnic courses. The approval by NZQA recognises the quality of content, resources, delivery, student assessment and management of the course as being at the national standard.

Life Care Consultants also welcomed a move by NZQA last week to release ‘First Aid as a Life Skill: Training Requirements for Quality Provision of Unit Standard Based First Aid Courses’. These Requirements will support all providers of First Aid unit standards across New Zealand.

An official launch and celebration of Life Care Consultants newly approved courses will be held for Life Care Consultants national staff team and their clients in the New Year.  Staff employed by Life Care Consultants all have extensive backgrounds in the health and education sectors, and are very excited about this achievement.

“We recognise that many people have prior knowledge of first aid and Life Care Consultants have strived for sixteen years to provide courses which meet diverse learner needs, while being efficient and ensuring a return on investment. We aimed to become international level educators using current technologies and learning methods which support our students, and now feel our approach has been recognised”  said Janet Brothers the Managing Director of Life Care Consultants.
